| Sand can be applied in a single pass from 10mm to 25mm deep (photo A). | |
| The
sand area is broomed to work the sand into the sward of the turf (photo
B), after which the grass grows through to leave a direct path for water
to pass through a top layer of sand approximately 35-60mm deep, then finds
a slit directly to a lateral drain, to a main drain, and to the stormwater
system. In most cases a sand carpet is spread over the whole field at a depth of 10 - 15mm per application. 2 to 3 applications are normally required to obtain the most desirable sand depth to drain the field to make an all-season facility with minimal cost. |
